What is Narcan?

Narcan is a nasal spray that counteracts drug overdose that is newly approved by the FDA. Narcan is very easy to use and can save lives! If you ever see someone who is overdosing, narcan can help them stay safe until proper medical care is accessible. It is important to note that while narcan is a good immediate solution, you should still call 911 for an ambulance as narcan won’t completely save someone. Narcan is also very easy to attain, because it can be bought at most drugstores or provided for free by some organizations.

How To Use Narcan Nasal Spray

STEP 1

Check For Signs Of Overdose

  • Will not wake up or respond to voice or touch
  • Breathing is very slow, irregular, or stopped
  • Center part of eye is very small

If they are not responding, call 911 and lay them on back to administer Narcan

STEP 2

Administer Narcan Nasal Spray

1. Remove Narcan from box and peel off the tab to open the Narcan

2. Hold the NARCAN nasal spray with your thumb on the bottom of the plunger and your first and middle fingers on either side of the nozzle

3. Tilt the person’s head back and gently insert nozzle into ONE nostril until either side of the nozzle are against the person nose

4. Press the plunger firmly to give the dose and remove nozzle after spraying

Narcan costs around 50 dollars for 2 nasal sprays. Narcan is now available in all states without a prescription in every state plus Washington DC. Narcan has never been so available and accessible.

You can get free Narcan from The Department of Health

You can get free Narcan from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. This groups gives out Narcan and teaches people how to use it. This way people can always be ready to help someone in need.
